Silt Chamber News
Building, insulation and HVAC contractors, solar installers and energy auditors are invited to attend any of the three meetings this month (see March Calendar of Events for dates & locations) to learn about boosting business through local and state rebate and financing programs. The "Building Trades in the Clean Energy Economy" meetings will brief trades people and seek their feedback on a clean energy finance district under development for Garfield County, state and utility rebate offerings, development of a local audit and retrofit program, and the federal Home Star bill. The Garfield New Energy Communities Initiative is hosting the meetings and food and beverages will be served. FREE - RSVP by calling 704-9200 or email events@CleanEnergyEconomy.net
On Saturday, October 31, the Silt Chamber of Commerce hosted their annual coat drive. Silt Chamber was there to serve breakfast and give warm coats to people of all ages. This event was made possible through the participation of volunteers, Canyon Cleaners, and Holiday Inn Express.
On Saturday, November 21 the Silt Chamber Of Commerce will be at the Silt Fire House distributing coats and a holiday turkey dinner to local senior citizens.
The First Annual Silt Area Chamber of Commerce Tamarisk Removal was a great success. Tamarisks have grown exponentially along the Colorado River since their inception. A single Tamarisk has the ability to drink over 300 gallons of water per day! While eradication results vary, the cutting and spraying method seems to be effective. This involves cutting the bush close to the stump followed by an injection of a chemical solution (eco-friendly of course).
Silt Chamber members along with 10 local volunteers confronted the Tamarisks on Oct 24th with admirable effort. Starting in the Silt River Park, we filled an entire industrial dumpster before moving on to Stoney Ridge and Tara Park. In addition to ridding these areas of the dreaded Tamarisk, we were also able to donate the wood to a local artist who makes furniture and other products out of Tamarisk. Our removal project has attracted the attention of other parties who have expressed interest in participating in further removal efforts. This is a great initiative that everyone can get behind and we look forward to organizing another project in the future. Thanks to all for their participation and support.
